From the ARGUS Newspaper:
Marie was a loving mother and best friend. After
a prolonged battle with cancer, Marie passed
away January 18th surrounded by family.
Her admirable life will be honored with a service
on January 28, 2007.
A donation to the American Cancer Society or
the Buddhist Church in Marie's memory is
requested in lieu of flowers.
Marie had this to say when she was asked for a
small biography.....................
I have been playing Taiko since 1997. I was one
of the founding members of the Onami Taiko
group in Union City and am one of the key
members in the Newark Taiko Center. The Taiko
Center is the teaching portion of Wadaiko
Newark and is affiliated with the Newark Unified
School District. I am also the Office Manager of
Adult Education at Mac Gregor School, which is
home to Wadaiko Newark and the Newark Taiko
Center.
I became interested in Taiko when the Southern
Alameda County Buddhist Church decided to
form a Taiko group. I was one of the original six
or eight members of what was to later become
Onami Taiko.
I play Taiko for the exercise, excitement,
friendship and for the sheer joy of performing. I
plan to continue playing as long as I am able and
I have become a Taiko teacher.
